Columbus was a criminal of the worst kind to humanity where ever he landed. He committed genocide to all indigenous nations again with the sanction of the church. Columbus day should be no holiday to celebrate! You are condoning the acts of a mass murderer by continuing with this holiday. You don't see Jack the Ripper,Hanbal Lector, Jeffery Dahmer etc. having holidays of their own and they didn't begin to kill the amount of people Columbus did. He didn't discover us, we were already here. He was lost and came upon us by accident. How can anyone honor this murderous man with a holiday in his honor.
Marcia Lane, I could not have put it more aptly.

In Germany where I reside we luckily do not celebrate Columbus Day but all the myths, falsifications and outright denials you see unfold across the Americas are also recited here. Don’t expect Europeans to acknowledge how Columbus started to kill and maim right from his first trip to the Caribbean onwards and once you point to the fact that there simply was no discovery people usually resort to “yes, but for whites” and similar apologetic stupedities. To most obviously that Eurocentric view of the world is the only valid one. To get rid of Columbus Day is but an important first step to erase the very mindset in honour of it and the dire consequences it had on America’s First Nations and other people of colour around the globe.

Thanks to Andre Cramblit for the blog and the Reconsider Columbus Day video (link).
