Blackfeet language preservation advocate Darrell Kipp dies

GREAT FALLS – Darrell Robes Kipp, educator, author, historian, filmmaker and one of the co-founders of the Piegan Institute in Browning, died Thursday evening at Blackfeet Community Hospital, according to his son, Darren Kipp. He was 69.

I Dance in the Brush Dance, Flower Dance, War Dance and the Pikiyavish (World Renewal) dance and participated in a Jump Dance to reclaim our Tribal land. I am a traditional gambler and singer/drummer. I am a founding member and Chair of the Karuk Language Committee. I am currently the Operations Director of the Northern California Indian Development Council (www.ncidc.org), a non-profit that meets the community development needs of American Indians throughout California. I live with my wife Wendy and son Kyle in Arcata California.
